Al Solarcyk opened the meeting with discussion about our weed problems which is everyone’s concern. Recently we did a 3 day pull of a different type of weed that has become a problem in certain areas. It is not an invasive type but a nuisance and needed to be addressed. With Tom Flannery’s help they have been mapping the areas of concern. Back in October several days of weed suction was done in other areas of the lake as well.
On the up side, it was noted that a recent water test was done and the results were very good.
Many lakes are having issues with water quality and levels due to the drought this year. Our lake has very good water quality.

Going forward for weed removal the problem is that we don’t have a lot of funds to work with.
We spent $9,600 on weed removal this year and from the residences prospective, it is not enough to keep ahead of the problem. Tom noted that we have been trying to control the weeds with non-chemical treatments. Next year we will look back at chemical treatments.

The herbicide we would use to treat the lake runs about $200 an acre. This would mean about
$20,000 for the whole lake which right now is out of our budget. Tom can work with the treatment company and residents for concern areas to map the areas in most need.

The board voted to get a treatment company on retainer for next year so we’ll be ready to go when needed. The vote was up to $7500 to start, and board approval for anything over this amount. The problem is not getting the dues in from all residents.

Lee Jarvis suggested we get a list of lake addresses from the town to send a direct letter to residents requesting dues, or we could use the reverse 911 function the town has to call residents. It was thought that not all residents have land lines.
It was mentioned that some lakes opt to have residents pay a fee to have weed treatment done in front of their homes to help with the cost, could this be an option. This is difficult as it would be hard to monitor and guarantee.

Another suggestion was to have a betterment added through the town to add dues right on the tax bill for lake side residents. This would help insure dues were paid but would require a 2/3 vote from residents effected. It was suggested that a sub-committee be formed of those interested to work on the logistics of this. A list was sent around the meeting for people interested in helping. A motion was made and accepted to allow this group to get this accomplished.

The board also noted to residents that we had minimal work done at the boat ramp entrance. We had put in some gravel/patch to help with accessibility for now.

The draw down is again scheduled for November 1st this year.

Al suggested that if anyone was interest in being a board member to let us know. The existing members were noted. Caroline Ely offered to step down to give another a chance to join the board.  Steve Boyle offered to come on board and take Caroline’s place.  The request was approved. All others were reelected as standing.

With no other business, the meeting was then adjourned at 8:30pm
